Vaclav Cerny’s first goal earns win for Rangers over Motherwell | Scottish Premiership

Rangers made a winning start at their temporary Hampden Park home as they beat Motherwell 2-1 in the Premiership.

Cyriel Dessers, whose late goal gave Rangers a 1-1 draw against Champions League qualifying opponents Dynamo Kyiv on Tuesday, opened the scoring after 13 minutes in the first of four games at Hampden due to delayed refurbishment at Ibrox.

But Motherwell were soon level following an own goal from Rangers’ debutant defender Robin Pröpper.

Vaclav Cerny then marked his first start since joining Rangers from Bundesliga club Wolfsburg with a stylish goal midway through the first half.

The second period proved a tense affair, but Philippe Clement’s team did enough to keep Motherwell at bay ahead of the return game with Dynamo.

Dundee moved to the top of the fledgling Premiership table by capitalising on a calamitous first-half display from Hearts to run out 3-1 winners at Dens Park.

The home side found themselves 3-0 up at the break when an error from Hearts goalkeeper Zander Clark paved the way for Scott Tiffoney to open the scoring before Gerald Taylor’s own goal was quickly followed by a Luke McCowan penalty in stoppage time at the end of the half.

Hearts played with more purpose after the interval and pulled one back through Frankie Kent, but the hosts held firm for the remainder of the match to climb above Rangers on goal difference.

Ross County grabbed a share of the points against Dundee United at Dingwall thanks to Ronan Hale’s stoppage-time equaliser.

David Babunski had put United ahead after he linked impressively with fellow new arrival Will Ferry, but Hale stepped up five minutes into stoppage time to secure a draw. County had missed a golden first-half opportunity when Eamonn Brophy’s penalty was saved by Jack Walton.
