Hamburg goalkeeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes scores bizarre own-goal in Hamburger Stadtderby against local rivals St. Pauli (Video)

In the Hamburger Stadtderby on Friday, played within the 2. Bundesliga at St. Pauli’s Millerntor-Stadion, HSV goalkeeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes scored a very strange own-goal, doubling St. Pauli’s lead in 27th minute after Jackson Irvine broke the deadlock for the home side in the 15th.

Hamburg eventually pulled back and leveled the score, courtesy of Robert Glatzel (58′) and Immanuel Pherai (60′), but Fernanders’ own-goal will long be remembered for the unusual way it came about.

In all fairness, the HSV shot-stopper shouldn’t be blamed too hard for it, given that he was reacting to a risky backpass from one of his teammates and that the ball bounced awkwardly off a bump in the pitch before he struck it.
