PFA awards: Lauren James among young player of the year nominees

Chelsea playmaker Lauren James and Manchester City goalkeeper Khiara Keating are among six nominees for the Professional Footballers’ Association women’s young player of the year award.

James claimed the title last year and is nominated again after scoring 13 goals in 16 games to help the Blues win the Women’s Super League title.

Keating, 20, won the Golden Glove after keeping nine clean sheets and conceding the fewest goals in the league.

Also nominated are James’ Chelsea team-mate Agnes Beever-Jones, Manchester United defender Maya le Tissier, Manchester City’s Jess Park and midfielder Grace Clinton, who spent the season on loan at Tottenham.

Beever-Jones scored 11 goals in her breakthrough season at Chelsea, while Le Tissier was an ever present in the league last season, also helping United keep a clean sheet as they beat Tottenham 4-0 in the FA Cup final.

Park was a key player for Gareth Taylor’s City in their title run-in with Chelsea, while Clinton scored four goals and got four assists during her temporary spell away from Manchester United.

The winner will be announced on Tuesday, 20 August.
