Real Madrid ask to reschedule final La Liga game for Taylor Swift tour

Real Madrid have formally requested to move the date of their final La Liga game of the season to allow more time to set up for a Taylor Swift concert at the Bernabeu.

Los Blancos’ final game of the 2023/24 league campaign against Real Betis is currently due to be played at home on Sunday 24 May. Swift’s Madrid performance of The Eras Tour will then take place a few days later on Thursday 30 May.

The Athletic report Madrid want to face Betis on Saturday 23 May instead to allow for more preparation at the Bernabeu, but the request may not be successful if both clubs have something to play for come the end of the season.

Madrid are favourites for the La Liga title, sitting six points ahead of Girona at the summit, while Betis will hope to be in the mix for a European qualification spot come Matchday 38.

In the interests of sporting fairness, Madrid would need to kick off at the same time as title rivals Girona – if they are still in contention – while Betis would need to do the same with other sides battling for places in continental competition.

Madrid are also looking for an additional date for a second Swift gig following the strong interest they have received. Musicians like Bruce Springsteen and the Rolling Stones have previously played at the club’s stadium, which is newly renovated.

The Bernabeu is one of a number of football stadiums due to hold Swift concerts this summer, including Anfield and Wembley in England as well as national stadiums in Ireland and Sweden.

There have also been concerns over a scheduled performance at the Groupama Stadium in June, with Lyon in danger of competing in the Ligue 1 relegation-promotion play-off. However, four straight wins have eased fears for the seven-time French champions, who now sit in tenth.

Madrid will hope to take another step towards regaining the La Liga title on Sunday night when they host former club captain Sergio Ramos and Sevilla.
