Virgil van Dijk makes Liverpool vow ahead of Arne Slot arrival

Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk has pledged his support to incoming manager Arne Slot as the Reds prepare to enter a new era.

Slot is heading to Anfield to replace legendary manager Jurgen Klopp, who stepped down this summer after a trophy-laden nine years at the helm.

Questions had been asked of Van Dijk’s own future at the club as he enters the final year of his contract, but the Dutchman remains committed to Liverpool and has vowed to support Slot next season.

“I have full trust in the club and their decisions going forward,” Van Dijk told Sky Sports.

“Obviously, change is always a bit unknown, but I’ve got full confidence and I’m looking forward to the new season already.”

Asked whether he could assure fans Liverpool will work to continue Klopp’s legacy, Van Dijk added: “100%, but success is not guaranteed. That’s pretty obvious. But we’re going to work our socks off to make it happen.

“We have a good coach coming in, good backroom staff, and we have a very good team. Let’s see what happens.”

The Dutchman’s optimism follows comments from right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, who also backed the club to have found a suitable successor to Klopp.

Van Dijk, who will turn 33 this summer, faces an important decision of his own next year as he approaches the end of his current contract with Liverpool.

He recently revealed he has not held talks over his situation at this point, with negotiations expected to take place over the coming months.
