West Ham midfielder Jessica Ziu sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury in a behind closed doors pre-season friendly on Thursday.
The 22-year-old Republic of Ireland international will undergo surgery before beginning her rehabilitation programme at the Hammers’ Chadwell Heath training ground.
Ziu, who signed for the Hammers from Irish side Shelbourne in 2022, made four appearances in the Women’s Super League last season.
She only returned from another ACL injury, which ruled her out for over a year, last November.
This meant Ziu missed Ireland’s 2023 World Cup campaign in New Zealand and Australia last summer.
